Eva Diaz has chaired the Tolleson Planning Commission since 2013 and won her state Senate seat in 2022 as a write-in candidate after the Democrat on the ballot withdrew. She took office in January 2023, turned back a 2024 primary challenge from former Rep. Leezah Sun, and beat Republican Steve Robinson that November. She drew no opponent in either the 2026 primary or the general election.

Elda Luna-Nájera, a social worker, was appointed to the state House by Maricopa County supervisors in February 2024 to replace Leezah Sun, who resigned facing expulsion. She won a full term that November and led the July 21 primary. She has sponsored one bill as a lawmaker, a childcare tax credit that died without a hearing. In September 2024 the Tolleson Union board stripped her of its presidency after an investigation found she and the superintendent had a sexual relationship.

Betsy Munoz, a first-generation college graduate who has worked at education nonprofits and now works at an immigration law office, ran for this seat in 2024 and finished third, 320 votes behind Elda Luna-Nájera. She came back in 2026 and placed second in the five-way July 21 primary. At the Clean Elections debate she said she would tap the state's $1.7 billion rainy-day fund for teacher raises, steering it to districts where voters reject bonds and overrides.
