Elda Luna-Nájera, a social worker, was appointed to the state House by Maricopa County supervisors in February 2024 to replace Leezah Sun, who resigned facing expulsion. She won a full term that November and led the July 21 primary. She has sponsored one bill as a lawmaker, a childcare tax credit that died without a hearing. In September 2024 the Tolleson Union board stripped her of its presidency after an investigation found she and the superintendent had a sexual relationship.

Professional Experience

  • Dr. Luna-Najera has worked in nonprofits and public education for the majority of her career. She has worked in behavioral health, child welfare, psychiatric medication management, with victims of domestic violence, court ordered treatment, students and families experiencing homelessness and in the foster care system. She has been a case manager, family therapist, intake clinician, certified school social worker, lead social worker, program coordinator, and an administrator in human services since 2004. She is certified as a school social worker through the Arizona Department of Education and is licensed through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health as a licensed master social worker (LMSW).
