Democrat · House · LD20

✓ Completed the Agenda's candidate questionnaire

Betty Villegas managed Pima County's affordable housing program for years before retiring in 2016, served briefly on the Pima County Board of Supervisors in 2020, and was director of housing and community development for South Tucson when supervisors appointed her to the state House in July 2023 to replace Andrés Cano. She won a full term in 2024. Housing dominates her legislative work — affordability, landlord-tenant disputes, housing discrimination and abandoned property. She finished second in the July 21 primary.

Education

I did not follow a traditional degree path, but I have spent my career doing the work. I attended the University of Arizona and Pima Community College, continued my professional development, and built decades of experience as a housing and community development practitioner. My qualifications come from public service, problem solving, and working directly with communities to deliver real results.
